Frank Gargano's Top 5 Games of Week 1

People, we are finally back.

Not like "purchase a cardboard cutout of yourself to be put in the stadium" back.

I'm talking like actually back.

I'm talking about tailgating all day, drinking beers with the boys and grilling out kind of back.

Hearing the deafening sound of 100,000 fans cheer in unison while the band plays a 100+ yr. old fight song.

College Football is finally back, and things seem just a little bit more normal. It's a relatively small step in the grand scheme of things but I'll take it!

While Week 1 of the College Football season usually equates to syllabus week in class, I think the Football Gods have graced us with a decent slate of games.

So without further ado, here are my Top 5 Games of the Week:

5. #4 Ohio St. @ Minnesota +14.5

Look, I get that this is a predictable pick. But if you don't like Big Ten Football, you might as well just stop reading now-thanks for the click though. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand that the Buckeyes have been a special program the last 20 years or so. Do we know if CJ Stroud will be as elite under center as Haskins and Fields were? No. But, I do know that P.J. Fleck's Golden Gophers are just pretenders in the grand scheme of Big Ten Football. Why anybody believes they can even compete for the West I'll never know. The Buckeyes will win like they usually do, and my wallet will be fatter for it.

Frank's Pick: Buckeyes -14.5

4. #17 Indiana @ #18 Iowa -3.5

What does Hoosier's Head Coach Tom Allen say? E.L.E? Everybody Love Everybody? that's Will Ferrell's character from the movie "Semi-Pro".

Either way, basically the same thing.

This is an extremely difficult game to pick not only for those of us on the East side of Big Ten Country, but for everyone else as well. Indiana looked great last year, but it was a weird year for everyone except for Ohio State and Bama. Are we really going to put our faith and money in INDIANA?????

No, but I'll put my money on Michael Penix Jr. to be dynamic enough to keep this a close game in the Trap House of the Midwest in Kinnick Stadium.

Frank's Pick: Hoosiers +3.5

3. #1 Alabama vs #14 Miami (the real one) +19.5

You think this guy is losing the first game of the season?

Champions win, but Legends Cover.

Frank's Pick: Fighting Sabans -19.5

2. #19 Penn St. @ #12 Wisconsin -5.5

Duke's Mayo Bowl - Wake Forest v Wisconsin

Outside of actually being in the Press Box at Michigan Stadium on Saturday, this is the game I'm looking forward to the most. We have two historically decent programs meeting in Week 1 for a noon kick at Camp Randall? Oh man, can't wait to see 3 yds. and a cloud of dirt. Usually, the Badgers rely heavily on fullback dives and their corn-fed big boys up front take care of business. But Wisconsin actually has a guy that can sling it! If Graham Mertz can continue to improve and take over Madison, the Badgers could be looking at actually competing during their annual ass kicking at the hands of the Buckeyes in Indy! If Mertz slides, they might have to settle for the Mayo bowl again.

Frank's Pick: Badgers -5.5

1. #5 Georgia vs #3 Clemson

Dude, props to Georgia and Clemson for consistently playing each other without fear of missing out on the playoff. Is it beyond stupid that they're playing a neutral site game at Bank of America Stadium? Yes, but I guess I'll let it slide because I'm just happy to see people in the stands and the band kids playing some music. I'm no SEC/ACC expert, but I do know that DJ Uiagalelei is a great replacement for Trevor Lawrence at Quarterback. He played in 4 games last year and threw for 5 TD's 914 yds. and 0 picks. He doesn't have to be a savior to beat Georgia, but he'll be good enough for Dabo Swinney to out-coach Kirby Smart.

Frank's Pick: Tigers -3

And there are so many more games to keep an eye on!

Will Cade McNamara finally be the answer to Jim Harbaugh's QB issues at Michigan?

Will Jason Candle and the Rockets tear through Norfolk St. on their way to Detroit? (yes)

Can BGSU scratch Joe Milton and the Vols?

No matter who you're cheering for, I think we can all agree that we're happy for College Football to truly be back. I hope you enjoyed this piece, and make some money along the way!
