Social Justice Stations of the Cross

Gather on the front steps of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church

428 N. Erie Street, Toledo, OH 43604

All are invited to join in praying the Stations of the Cross around the Courthouse on Good Friday, April 19, at noon. The ecumenical prayer will focus on current social justice issues linked to each station.

Starting on the front steps of St. Paul’s Lutheran, 428 North Erie Street, the group will sing verses of “Were You There?” as they walk on the sidewalk around the courthouse, stopping for a short prayer at each of the 14 stations and ending back at St. Paul’s.

Prayer leaders for the Stations are Rev. Pete Bowmer (St. Paul’s Lutheran Church); Suzanne Brockway, Holy Spirit Catholic Community; Ray Wood (NAACP); Fr. Tony Gallagher (AUSCP); Pattye Nicolls (St. Paul’s Lutheran Lay Preacher); Rev. Mike Hanck (Salem Lutheran Church); Patty Hernandez (Advocates for Basic Legal Equality); Sr. Sharon Havelak, OSF (Sisters of St. Francis, Sylvania); Ed Hoover (Ohioans to Stop Executions); Pastor Mike Key, People’s Missionary Baptist Church; Michelene LaPlant, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church; Metropolitan Maeve Olga Leroux, Joy of All Who Sorrow Universalist Orthodox Church; Fr. Ed Littelmann (AUSCP); Fr. Bob Reinhart (AUSCP).

Jean Badik and Jack SoRelle will serve as music ministers.

The Stations of the Cross have a long and varied history as a means of meditating in a spiritual pilgrimage commemorating Jesus’ suffering and death.

The prayer event is organized by the Association of U.S. Catholic Priests (AUSCP) and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
