Toledo's Plan For Federal Stimulus Money

On Monday, Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz announced his plan for the federal stimulus money in detail. The plan, which the Mayor calls the Toledo Recovery Plan, is a list allocating the entire $188.7 million in federal relief.

The Mayor's plan includes $130 million for Toledo Public Schools and $83 million for Lucas County. Mayor Kapszukiewicz wishes to spend the money on capital investments because the relief stimulus is a one time occurrence.

"While it is an incredible amount of money, it's one-time money, and that's important in terms of how we think about how it should be apportioned," Kapszukiewicz said.

Breaking it down more, the Mayor has $53 million going to budget stabilization, $15 million into the city workforce, $30 million into youth, recreation and parks and $30 million into creating a new police and fire training center at Scott Park. $30 million will go for job creation and redevelopment and the last $30 million for green and healthy housing and preservation.

The first half of the money is expected to arrive on May 11th and the final half will be released a year later. Local and State governments have till December of 2024 to spend the funds.
